ORDINARY PEOPLE BUILT BOMBAY MOST EXTRAORDINARILY… AND CONTINUE TO

A freelance journalist and publisher, Meher Marfatia has over 35 years’ experience in the profession, writing or editing for reputed journals, including, The Illustrated Weekly of India, The Taj Magazine Marg, The Art India Magazine, Verve and Rolling Stone.

Her independent imprint, 49/50 Books, focuses on little-known communities and cultures. Its first title, in 2011, Laughter in the House: 20th-Century Parsi Theatre, sparked a widely acclaimed revival of traditional Parsi drama.

Once Upon A City, the fifth offering from 49/50 Books, offers expanded essays of her popular Sunday Midday column by the same name. Meher shares her passion for Bombay and understanding of it through the subaltern stories she chooses to tell.

Discussing the role oral history plays, she will explain how everyone can be a small but vital part of the big picture, relating our wonderful past with contemporary reality. To always celebrate the extraordinary contributions of ordinary people.
