Rupa Arupa

Rupa Arupais  a Sanskrit phrase projecting an oscillation between form and formlessness, physical and metaphysical, is a rare exhibition featuring traditional art forms extant in India .

In an endeavor to preserve and promote our rich cultural heritage, our very own Indus member Nisha Dobberstein , along with Anu Chowdhury Sorabjee, have co-curated this wonderful exhibition .

On display are works by skilled, award winning artisans, covering a vast range of folk art. We will see a large collection of Molela Tiles, along with Gond, Nathdwara Pichwai, Madhubani, Pattachitra, Mata ni Pachedi and Rajasthani Phad Painting.

Anu will help us understand more about folk beliefs and symbolism that persist throughout in these art forms. Traditional Indian folk art embodies deep philosophic and religious concepts and it is inspired by mythic concepts, which renders form with formlessness.
