CONSERVATION IS DEVELOPMENT

Protecting the environment is often considered a luxury when it is, in fact, a survival imperative. The need to look at environment and development in a holistic manner grows ever more urgent in a country like India that is battling extreme poverty.

A Fulbright-Nehru Fellow from Columbia University (USA), Swati Hingorani, leads Communications at the Wildlife Conservation Trust, an NGO working on community development and wildlife conservation in India.

She will speak about the linkages between environmental concerns and other issues such as gender justice, insurgency groups and poverty.
