Florence - Renaissance city, World Heritage city, 21st Century city, All this, in a city, which can be traversed in 15 minutes, We will take a virtual tour guided by Malvika Bhatia, seeing Florence as she has seen it. We will see how Florence manages to belong simultaneously to both medieval and modern Europe, and exist in harmony with both epochs. Then we will bring the talk closer to home. Mumbai is a much younger city than Florence but holds about five centuries of history in a 5 kilometre radius. Few Mumbaikars notice it and fewer care to preserve it. What value does Mumbai history hold in our modern lives?

Malvika Bhatia is a heritage and museum education professional, having completed her MA in Heritage Education from Newcastle University, UK, and has worked in education projects and programmes at museums and heritage sites in the UK and India. Malvika will take us on a journey of discovery and lead an open debate on whether it’s time we saved Mumbai’s heritage.
